Melvin Badon

July 4, 1942 — May 22, 2022

Melvin Maury Badon (7/4/42-5/22/22) affectionately called "Babe", "Dad", "Daddy", "Poppa" and "Pop", went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday morning as he was surrounded by adoring family and friends.

The youngest of 3 boys, Melvin was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on the Fourth of July. He met the love of his life, Libby, at age 15 on a blind date, marrying her on June 8, 1961. After graduating from LSU, Melvin began his career as a mechanical engineer. After working in Lake Charles, Little Rock and Corpus Christi, the Badons settled in Mobile in 1975. Melvin retired in 2008 after 33 years of working as a Project Manager at Ciba Specialty Chemicals.

Surrendering to Jesus at age 12, Melvin grew even more in love with His Lord over his years. A man of prayer who daily interceded for his family and friends, he was also characterized by integrity, hard work and excellence. He focused his time on serving his family and church. He served as Deacon, Deacon Chairman, Director of the beloved Celebration Sunday School Class at Cottage Hill Baptist and later Elder at Pure Grace Church. An engineer through and through, he always had a project going. The family especially loved the zip line and grand treehouse he built for them to enjoy. He loved to tell others about his projects and often made his family laugh by giving long meticulous explanations about the things he was working on.

There was not a lazy or selfish bone in Melvin's body. He loved to serve others. If he saw a need, he did whatever he could to quietly meet that need, never seeking recognition. Melvin was the ultimate Dad and Poppa, serving as chauffeur, driving instructor and all-around problem solver. He especially loved doting on his Libby, bringing her coffee and breakfast each morning and trying to take care of the household chores before she had the chance.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Frances Badon and brother Clyde Badon Jr. He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years Elizabeth "Libby" Walsh Badon; his four daughters Janet Stephens (Keith), Sharon Dunn (Chris), Renee Starling (Bill) & Michelle Allen (Michael); his grandchildren Erin Stephens, Ben Stephens (Jessica), Lauren Blackerby (Josiah), Emily Shaver (Jeff), Hunter LaForce, Allison Cancel, Grace Cancel, and 5 Starlings: William, Jesse, Ruby, Hazel & Ray; 3 great grands: Roslyn, Bastian & Sacha; brother Dan Badon (Marty); and sister-in-law Rebecca Badon.

Melvin will be greatly missed and will be held in high honor by his family and friends. Yet, they rejoice that he is experiencing the joy of being with Jesus, the One he honored with his life.
