Joanne Hodges

March 26, 1937 — December 4, 2022

JOANNE C. HODGES
March26, 1937-December 4, 2022

Born in DeKalb, Kemper County Mississippi to Foster H. Creekmore and Bernice Creekmore (nee Fox), she relocated with her family to Prichard, Alabama in 1951. A member of the Vigor High School Class of 1955, she married William Elliott Hodges in November of that same year.

Joanne worked at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile until their son, David Elliott Hodges was adopted in early 1963. Upon Brookley closing, the family lived in California and then Ohio before she returned to Chickasaw with David in December 1972. She went to work with the State of Alabama Employment Service from which she retired in April 1997.

Joanne was a devoted and encouraging Mother, serving at various times as room mother, trip chaperone and faithfully endured years of baseball, which she hated, to watch her son play one inning a game.

She loved music, having played piano in her youth. She was an avid bowler and spent hours tending her flowers. She crocheted for years making gits for family and friends, and donated over 100 afghans to a local nursing home. Among her greatest joys was spoiling her fur babies, Princess, Tippi and Molly absolutely rotten.

Joanne was predeceased by her parents and her older brother Jimmy. In addition to her adoring son, she is survived by her sister Mary Jane Sands of Arizona, and her brother, Wayne Creekmore of Oklahoma, nieces, nephews and their children, as well as friends and neighbors.

A memorial will be held Tuesday December 13 at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church with visitation at 4 and the service at 5. An additional gathering will be held in Mobile on the occasion of her interment in the last weekend of March, 2023.
